Buddha: " Whenever you see things, just see. Whenever you listen, just listen. Whenever you know, just know."
Thailand - Phuket - Fable of Phra Thong
It is said that a young Thalang village boy once tethered his water buffalo to what he thought was a post sticking out of the ground. The boy and the buffalo became seriously ill with an unknown sickness. When the 'post' was examined by the villagers found it to be the tip of the topknot of a buried solid gold Buddha statue. The Thalang villagers could not excavate the whole of the statue - so they built a temple over it.
During the Burma - Siam war in 1785 the invading soldiers tried to remove the gold Buddha statue from the ground but failed repeatedly as swarms of wasps attacked them over and over again.
Later the villagers covered the statue with a layer of stucco and gilded it, hiding the real gold Buddha image beneath. This is as we see it is today.
The Phra Thong is also known as the Buddha in the ground - Phra Phut.
